Open Positions
Broad Ripple Review is currently open to applications for several volunteer editorial roles. Specifically, we are looking for volunteer readers for prose, as well as editors for copyediting, reviews/interviews, and finally, poetry (to launch in 2026). Please do not apply if you currently have work under review and please also understand that if you accept a role with our team, you will not be eligible to submit work to us.

Aesthetic Vision
Broad Ripple Review publishes literary fiction and nonfiction that is emotionally resonant, stylistically precise, and narratively purposeful. While we want to establish our own unique identity, we recognize in the early months that it may be informative to point folks to other publications that align with our vision. Our strongest aesthetic alignment is with Kenyon Review. We are also open to the voice-forward and occasionally strange energy of Booth and the polished realism found in Ploughshares. We live in the overlap of those three publications.

We value:
-
Language that sings – sentences should carry rhythmic weight, surprise, or precision
-
Emotional resonance – work that lingers, unsettles, or deepens with each read
-
Narrative movement – a clear sense of arc, tension, or momentum
-
Originality – stories or essays that avoid clichés or overused formats
We are not a home for:
-
Genre fiction (sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, etc.)
-
Unusual forms (e.g. lists, multiple choice, crossword puzzles), unless doing something conceptually new and compelling
-
Work that is conceptually interesting but flat on the line level
-
Didactic or ideological writing with no emotional or narrative complexity
