Submission Guidelines

Broad Ripple Review publishes literary fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry.
We also maintain a separate project, Afterwords: The BRR Blog, which publishes critical book reviews and interviews. For more information about both projects and our editorial vision, please visit the About page.

Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting:

Broad Ripple Review - what we accept:
-
Short Fiction: up to 4,000 words
-
Flash Fiction: up to five pieces, not exceeding a total of 4,000 words
(No lower word count limit. Submit them together in one document.) -
Creative Nonfiction: up to 4,000 words (This includes memoir, lyric essay, and narrative nonfiction.)

Afterwords: The BRR Blog - What We Accept:
-
Critical book reviews
-
Interviews (please pitch)

We welcome hybrid or experimental forms when the form is necessary to the content, not decorative. However, we are not the home for genre fiction, speculative work, or horror unless those elements are secondary to the language and interior concerns of the piece.
We only accept unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please notify us promptly using our submission manager if your work is accepted elsewhere.
A Note on Formatting
We do not have strict submission formatting requirements. As writers ourselves, we understand that you are likely submitting your work to multiple outlets, and we do not want to create unnecessary barriers. That said, we appreciate readability and professionalism.

-
Submit as a Word document
-
Use a readable font (Times New Roman, Garamond, etc.) in 12-point
-
Double-space your work (unless alternative spacing is necessarily if you are experimenting with form).
How to Submit
Please submit your work through our online submission portal. Emailed submissions will not be accepted or read. Please do not query about the status of your submission. Please do not email us to withdraw your work, but rather do so within t=our submission manager. We promise that you will receive a response as soon as we have an update for you. We appreciate and care deeply about your work.
